One person is in hospital with serious injuries after a major crash at a busy south side intersection.
Two vehicles, a pickup truck and a car parked in the Safeway lot, were involved in the crash which happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Arthur and Edward streets,
The driver, reportedly the lone occupant of the pickup truck, was taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences by ambulance with what the Thunder Bay Police Service describe as "serious injuries." There was nobody inside the car at the time of the crash.
The truck appeared to strike a traffic light stand at the intersection before colliding with the car, which was in the parking lot between the street and the gas bar. The light stand was knocked to the ground.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
Arthur Street is closed between Edward and Brown streets while officers conduct an investigation. Officers are also directing traffic through the intersection.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area throughout the afternoon.
