THUNDER BAY -- A Thunder Bay man is lucky to be alive after a drug-related stabbing this past Friday night at a Cameron Street residence.
Police on Monday said the 34-year-old victim, who likely knew his attacker, was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries, but is recovering in hospital days after the bloody incident occurred.
“This was a very serious injury that he sustained,” police spokesman Chris Adams said on Monday. “This individual is still in hospital receiving treatment for that. It was an altercation that occurred at a residence on Cameron Street.
“It’s believed the individuals were known to each other and unfortunately this appears to have been drug-related as well.”
Asked if police had a suspect they were looking for, Adams said it’s still an active investigation.
“There is still some work to be done as far as identifying the exact identity. Unfortunately given the circumstances around it, it’s a very challenging investigation to find out exactly who is responsible,” Adams said.
“Of course, given the individuals injuries, that makes it difficult for follow-up right now.”
Police were well aware of the residence prior to the stabbing incident, Adams added.
“Certainly it has a lot of activity sometimes surrounding it and in this particular case, it really just comes down to being 100 per cent accurate as to who that individual is,” he said. “Anytime you have an investigation with someone involving serious injuries, there’s a waiting time as well to do more follow-up.”
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. and police ask anyone with information to phone 684-1200 or visit www.tipsubmit.com.
