UPDATE: Tanker cars damaged in train collision at Fort Frances (2 photos)

Officials say no leaks occurred as a result of the collision.

FORT FRANCES, Ont. — Some railroad tank cars were damaged in Sunday night's collision between two CN trains in Fort Frances.

No one was injured, and there were no leaks of dangerous goods.

CN and the Canadian Transportation Safety Board are looking into how the collision happened.

The tank cars were part of an eastbound train which came into collision with a westbound train just outside the CN yard at the McIrvine Road level crossing about 11:00 p.m.

Officials told Tbnewswatch that four tanker cars sustained superficial damage, however they did not derail or leak.

Six loaded lumber cars in the westbound train were dislodged from the tracks as a result of the collision but remained upright.

A spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said Monday morning that the TSB is not deploying investigators to Fort Frances but is "doing some follow-up."

Chris Krepski explained that "It depends on the circumstances of the initial report. In this case, there were no reported leaks or anything like that...It's sufficient for us to start gathering information and we'll take it from there."

The McIrvine Road crossing was temporarily closed as a result of the incident.
