TORONTO - A two-goal third was just the burst the University of Toronto Blues needed to pull away and down the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night.

Eddie Yan and Cole Purboo broke open a 2-1 with goals eight minutes apart in the final frame and Toronto went on to beat the T-Wolves 4-1.

Tyler Jette had the only goal for Lakehead, ending Jett Alexander’s shutout bid at 11:45 of the second, the Thunderwolves closing the gap to 2-1 at the time.

Purboo and Ross Kreger had staked the Varsity Blues to a 2-0 lead, Purboo's fourth of the year opening the scoring against LU goaltender Christian Cicigoi at 14:33 of the first.

Cicigoio made 22 saves in a losing effort, while Alexander faced 28 shots, allowing a single goal. Lakehead hosts Windsor on Friday night and Waterloo on Saturday night.

The loss drops Lakehead to 6-5-2, fifth in the OUA West, a point ahead of Wilfrid Laurier and Waterloo, both teams with games in hand on LU. The top six teams make the playoffs.

Toronto improved to 7-4-1.
