Vehicle break-ins on the rise

Suspects have been breaking windows to gain entry to locked vehicles.
Thunder Bay Police Service

THUNDER BAY -- Police are cautioning people to be careful about what they leave in their vehicles after receiving an increase in break-ins, which has led to some cases of debit cards being stolen and used.

The Thunder Bay Police Service on Friday issued a news release, advising they have been seeing a rise of thefts from vehicles over the past few weeks. While there have been reported incidents throughout the city, they have been occurring at a higher rate in the north core area.

Those break-ins include unlocked vehicles being entered as well as some incidents where windows have been smashed to gain entry.

Police have received some reports of debit cards being taken from vehicles and used to spend money if the tap feature is enabled.

People are encouraged to call police if they observe suspicious behaviour in their neighborhood, especially during overnight hours.
