A vehicle fire has cause some smoke damage to a Lakehead University building.
Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue Service were called to bring a fire inside a half-ton truck under control in the University’s service areas at 8:48 p.m. on Friday. Fire trucks from five stations were called to fight the fire. The first arriving units brought the fire under control.
Fire crews were able to prevent the flames from damaging the nearby building. Fire officials say the four crews had a difficult time exhausting the smoke from the large area. Using three large pressure blowers the crews were able to get the smoke out of the rooms.
Smoke spread and caused some damage to the University’s kitchen, cafeteria, bookstore and lecture area. There was also fire damage to the back of a Lakehead University security truck.
A possible cause of the fire could be an electrical failure cause by cold weather, fire officials say.
