Police are investigating a crash that flipped an SUV on its side and sent one person to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Arthur Street and James Street. The truck and SUV involved in the crash received major damage. The collision also involved a third car but it received minor damage.

Thunder Bay Police Service directed traffic along the busy stretch of road as tow trucks arrived to move the two damaged vehicles.

Acting Sgt. Taxios Milionis said one vehicle was travelling along Arthur Street when it collided with the other vehicle in the intersection. He said the person who was sent to the hospital only went as a precaution and there were no other injuries.

“The collision is being investigated and charges could be pending,” he said. “We try to get as many available officers as possible to assist the traffic control to ensure that traffic is routed safely so emergency personnel do their jobs safely.”

Teresa Krucien saw the crash and said the SUV flew high enough that all four tires came off the ground. She said she thought that the SUV was going to push all the cars back.

“He took air,” she said. “We couldn’t believe it. I thought the car was going to come all the way over. We were two cars over and I thought it was going to hit us. There wasn’t anybody too shook up.”
