THUNDER BAY — A 31-year-old resident of Woodstock, Ontario faces multiple charges including assault with a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle following an incident in Thunder Bay on Monday.
The man was arrested outside a business in the 300 block of Water Street just after 9:00 a.m.
Thunder Bay Police say officers arrived to find the suspect being held on the ground by employees of the business.
Police say he had been spotted entering a privately-owned SUV, and that the owner was assaulted when he tried to restrain him. He also resisted arrest when officers tried to take him into custody, resulting in one officer being assaulted.
A follow-up investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly stolen a truck from the Banning Street area, then driven it to the Water Street location.
After police determined that he required medical attention for a possible drug-related issue, he was taken to hospital for medical attention before he was locked up.
The man was scheduled for an initial court appearance Tuesday morning.
