Vehicle stop leads to impaired charges

THUNDER BAY – A traffic stop on Highway 11/17 has resulted in impaired driving charges for one Thunder Bay man.

According to a release, Ontario Provincial Police was on patrol on Highway 11/17 on Wednesday around 10:40 p.m. when the officer observed the driver of a motor vehicle commit a traffic violation.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and further tests were conducted.

A 28-year-old thunder Bay man was arrested and charged with operate a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol or drugs and operate a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.

He was also charged with failure to stop at an amber light, driving with handheld communication device, driving a motor vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock device and driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11 to answer to the charges.
