THUNDER BAY -- A pedestrian is in hospital getting stitches to his head at this hour after being struck by a vehicle outside the McIntyre Centre.
Emergency Services were called to the intersection of Memorial Avenue and Isabel Street at 6 p.m. Friday to reports a motorist had struck a pedestrian and the latter had sustained a head injury.
A Thunder Bay Police Service officer on the scene said the man's injuries are not life-threatening.
Thunder Bay witnessed a spike in vehicle on pedestrian collisions near the end of October, resulting in the city police force's traffic unit to issue a reminder to both pedestrians and drivers to exercise more caution on the roadways.
Statistically in North America November comes with the highest rate of reported vehicle-pedestrian collisions. Some statistics show the rate of these kinds of incidents nearly double in November following the clock change to Daylight Savings Time.
Incidents are most common between 4 and 6 p.m.
