Victim identified in fatal auto-pedestrian collision

A North Caribou Lake First Nation man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal auto-pedestrian collision last Friday.

THUNDER BAY - The victim in a fatal auto-pedestrian collision on the city’s north side late last week has been identified.

Travis Tait, 32-years-old, of North Caribou Lake First Nation was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, at approximately 6:34 p.m. last Friday, a tractor trailer was proceeding north bound on Highway 11/17. Tait entered the intersection against a red light and was struck by the tractor trailer as it was travelling through the intersection at Red River Road.

The collision closed the intersection Friday evening for approximately five hours while an investigation was conducted.

The OPP Highway Safety Division, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit, and the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene for the investigation. 

The investigation is ongoing.
