Victim, suspect named in city's first homicide of 2013

City police say the victim of Wednesday's homicide was stabbed. Police were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m., where they found an injured man on the sidewalk at the corner of May and Violet streets.

City police say the victim of Wednesday's homicide was stabbed.

Police were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m., where they found an injured man on the sidewalk at the corner of May and Violet streets.

Emergency responders attempted to revive the victim, but were not successful.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Travis Vaughn Cutfeet. 

Police arrested 35-year-old Shawn Joseph Henderson Wednesday around 10:30 p.m.in a Victoria Avenue East residence. He has been charged with second-degree murder. 

Cutfeet was allegely stabbed by the accused as he was walking down May Street. The two are known to each other. 

Police had blocked off a portion of Thunder Bay’s downtown south-side, closing May Street from Miles Street to Victoria Avenue.

Officers were also guarding an alleyway between Newfie’s Pub and New York Subway.

A post mortem examination is pending.

Henderson's next court date is May 9.
