WAWA, Ont. -- Two children are among the four victims of a fatal highway crash near Wawa during the weekend.

The OPP on Wednesday released the identity of those killed in the two-vehicle crash, which happened on Sunday night about 15 kilometres south of Wawa.

Police said a preliminary investigation has determined a southbound vehicle struck a moose, before crossing into the oncoming lane and colliding with a northbound vehicle.

Fatos Metko, 45, and Fioralb Metko, 14, both from Calgary, were in the southbound vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The northbound vehicle had five familial occupants, all of whom were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Cynthia Caraoa, 51, and nine-year-old Anika Caraoa died later in hospital.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
