Video: Suspect connected to north-side hotel assault arrested

One man has been arrested in connection to a north-side assault.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Community Response Team have arrested a suspect connected to a November assault that took place at a hotel.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Midtown Inn in the zero-to-100 block of Cumberland Street North at around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 following reports of an assault in progress.

Police learned several individuals had forcefully entered a room in the hotel and assaulted two occupants. Weapons were involved in this assault.

Both victims were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment. Their injuries were non-life threatening.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit and Community Response Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Part of this investigation included the public release of surveillance footage in hopes a suspect could be identified.

As a result of ongoing investigation, police learned the identity of one of the male suspects involved in the assault. Officers located and arrested the male suspect just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Justin Michael Morrison, 35, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Disguise with Intent, Forcible Confinement and Forcible Entry.

He appeared in bail court Sunday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

The investigation is ongoing and police continue to work toward identifying other suspects involved.

Surveillance footage originally released publicly in November is being released again in hopes the public can help identify other suspects.
