THUNDER BAY – The Ontario Day of Action for Colten Boushie is expected to draw large crowds on Saturday night to Hillcrest Park.

The vigil is part of a nationwide reaction to Friday’s acquittal of Gerald Stanley, who shot and killed Boushie in August 2016 when the Indigenous youngster ventured onto Stanley’s property while out for a drive with friends.

Stanley convinced the all-white jury that his gun went off accidentally, claiming he was afraid for his life and that of his family’s.

The Thunder Bay event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Participants are advised to dress warmly and are encouraged to bring signs, candles and hand drums.

“Please join us in solidarity and prayer for the family of Colten Boushie. Please remain peaceful,” organizers said in a release.
