Vikings, Tigers pick up OFSAA wins

Hammarskjold takes on Patrick Fogarty Catholic on Friday looking to advance to the girls basketball quarterfinals, while Westgate was 2-1 on Thursday and will need some help to advance in the 'AA' volleyball championship.

STRATFORD, Ont. – The No. 6 Hammarskjold Vikings lived up to their ranking to open the 2022 AA High School Girls Basketball Championship on Friday.

Kate Clouthier scored 25 points and sister Sarah Clouthier had 14 as the Vikings downed No. 16 King City 62-29.

The Vikings will look to go 2-0 on Friday when they match-up against No. 11 Patrick Fogarty Catholic from Orillia, Ont., with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

In boys' volleyball play, the Westgate Tigers went 2-1 on the opening day, falling in straight sets (16-25, 24-26) to Sacred Heart High School in Group C play in their first match of the day, but rebounding to sweep Scarborough’s (26-24, 25-23) and pick up a three-set victory over Ingersoll DCI (18-25, 27-29, 18-16).

The Tigers will play Kings Christian Collegiate on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The top team in each pool will advance. Sacred Heart leads Pool C at 3-0 and takes on Francis Libermann on Friday.
