THUNDER BAY -- While the weather may be out of season, Thunder Bay's volunteer community aren't letting that stop them from showing their sense of charity and goodwill ahead of the holidays.
Volunteers with the Red Cross's Creations program make scarves, hats, gloves and a wide range of other knit items, all in the name of charity.
Throughout this week, the fruits of that labour are on sale at Victoriaville Mall, with proceeds from the sales going towards local Red Cross initiatives.
Organizers said each year they're impressed by the generosity of their volunteer knitters.
“Some of our volunteers are way into their 90s, I’ve even had some that are 100-years-old,” said Red Cross Creations Program volunteer coordinator Amy Balec.
“They are skilled knitters and they create beautiful articles and sometimes, like I say, if it’s not a sellable article we have lots of people to give it to and they don’t complain if they get the article from us.”
In just three days, Balec said they've raised $3,000 for local Red Cross projects.
Any unsold items at the end of the week will be donated to 18 local charities, including Christmas Cheer.
The volunteers will be selling at Victoriaville until Friday.
