THUNDER BAY -- An appeal with the Ontario Municipal Board over a proposed chain restaurant has been settled.

City council approved the rezoning of the former Port Arthur Prosvita on South High Street in March for the Wacky Wings restaurant and arcade, which has seven franchises in the province.

Some neighbours had opposed the development due to concerns about parking and noise.  On May 25, two opponent filed an appeal to the OMB, which has the power to overturn decisions by city councils.

An OMB hearing held Tuesday resulted in what Lawyer Rene Larson called a good settlement.

“The objectors recognize that the City of Thunder Bay needs to grow and have more business go ahead and that the standards that are applied here apply for future re-zonings,” Larson said during an interview with CKPR Radio Tuesday.

The settlement means that the chain restaurant can move forward with development of the proposed restaurant and arcade.

The next step in that development will see officials with the restaurant chain enter into a formal site plan agreement with the city.
