BRANTFORD - After a lengthy standoff, police have arrested a wanted federal offender who was described as "armed and dangerous" and was known to frequent the Thunder Bay area. Jamie Dryden, 32, was arrested in Brantford after a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month.

Dryden was sought by Hamilton police after he allegedly shot at local officers on Jan. 31. Police say Dryden positioned a female between himself and the officers to deter arrest, and managed to escape. He is also a suspect in a physical altercation with a Hamilton resident that same day.

Dryden was located at a Brantford home early on the morning of Feb. 14 after a two-week investigation by multiple police agenices. Area schools were placed on a hold and secure while police negotiators assisted with a standoff that lasted approximately 16 hours.

Before the Hamilton incident, Dryden was on statutory release as part of a nearly three-year sentence for a number of offenses, including aggravated assault, break and enter, disguise with intent, and theft under $5,000.
