THUNDER BAY -- The drinking water advisory for an area around Oliver Road, which included the region’s hospital, has been lifted.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced the end of the advisory Thursday afternoon after bacterial samples taken from the drinking water supply came back with satisfactory results.
Officials at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre were forced to rely on bottled water after issues appeared earlier this week.
Cathy Covino, the hospital’s director of quality and risk management, said Wednesday that discoloured water was first noticed on Tuesday and a precautionary drinking water advisory was then issued by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
“Bottled water and extra juice has been supplied to all units for patient-care needs,” said Cathy Covino in a release issued on Wednesday by the City of Thunder Bay.
City officials were quick to blame a newly installed water main on Golf Links Road and said once the discolouration was discovered, crews immediately began flushing area water mains.
The water issues were isolated to an area around Golf Link and Oliver Roads.
