Officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources are hoping the rain that's expected over the next couple of days will help with the low water levels in the region.

Kakabeka Falls has been reduced to just a trickle this week, due to the lack of snow this winter and the absence of rain so far this spring. Water levels are usually at their highest around mid-April but this year water basins and rivers are at an all time low and dams are running at minimum flows. Leona Tarini with the Ministry of Natural Resouces said this extreme drought could lead to severe consequences for fish populations in area rivers.

Tarini said if the low water levels continue, they will review their water management plan which gives recommendations on what to do if the area is experiencing a drought or flood.
