THUNDER BAY — Repairs to the pedestrian bridge to Marina Park will cause some traffic disruptions, starting this week.
The contractor doing the $1.3 million dollar fix-up plans to close two lanes on Water Street as of Thursday.
Traffic will be restricted to one northbound lane and one southbound lane, between Tupper and Pearl streets.
The lane closures will last to the end of the month.
Then, after the August long weekend, all four lanes of Water Street will be blocked off for two days.
The overpass, built in 1994, requires structural repairs because deterioration in some of the components would prevent it from staying open past this year.
The work will require the removal of the bridge for about 12 weeks.
After repairs are completed in October, the city expects the span will be ready for a further 20 years of service.
