Waterfront flooding not caused by cracked water main, officials say

What some area calling a flooding on the construction site at Prince Arthur's Landing is not a cause for concern, say officials in charge of the city's waterfront project.

A large dug-out area where crews were conducting soil remediation recently became filled with water and ice. Waterfront construction supervisor Gary Wood said the inflow of water from Lake Superior was expected to happen, and should not pose any problems.

He added that the soil remediation work has been completed, and they've simply allowed the lake water to seep in until the big craters are eventually filled.

There have been some suggestions about a possible cracked water main at the site, but Wood said that is not the case.

The area in question is earmarked for the two condominiums and the hotel component of Prince Arthur's Landing development.
