THUNDER BAY – A watermain break resulted in the closure of Frederica Street on Tuesday.

Water could be seen flooding the roadway, sidewalks, and some yards in the area along Frederica just west of James Street beginning around 4 p.m. Monday.

Crews were on scene and had completed the bulk of repairs by early Tuesday morning.

The city said Frederica should be reopened to traffic by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, but warned further closures could be necessary over the next 48 hours as crews worked to repair the water distribution system and restore service.

Just one home remained without water service as of Tuesday evening, the city said.

Repairs were needed to the system between James and Euclid Avenue, the city stated.

Motorists are asked to plan an alternative route, to drive with caution, and obey all signage in the area of the road closure.
