THUNDER BAY — Some residents of a north-side Thunder Bay neighbourhood lost their water service for a good part of the day Thursday after a pipe ruptured underground.
The sewer and water department said a feeder line broke beneath Picton Avenue near Red River Road.
The rupture occurred at about 3:00 a.m., and affected nearby homes as well as a restaurant.
Customers had service restored by early afternoon, although a crew was still working at the repair site a few hours later.
A city official said this is the time of year when watermain breaks begin to develop due as temperatures fluctuate and the frost gets deeper into the ground.
He said there have been a few breaks already this season.
