Weapons charge laid in Kenora

Schools were placed under lockdown after police respond to a man possibly carrying a weapon.

KENORA, Ont. – A 28-year-old man is in custody Wednesday after police respond to an incident in Kenora.

Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a man possibly carrying a weapon near a school zone around 2:40 p.m.

The OPP advised all schools to play a hold and secure as a precautionary measure.

Members of the OPP, Northwest Region Canine and Northwest Emergency Response Team located the accused and is currently in custody.

As a result of this investigation, a 28-year-old from Kenora has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused is to appear in Kenora court on Oct. 3 to answer to the charge.
