Weekend pass sales up 40 per cent at Blues Festival

The Thunder Bay Blues Festival is back on its feet in a big way.

The Thunder Bay Blues Festival is back on its feet in a big way.

Thunder Bay Auditorium general manager Bob Halvorsen on Monday said attendance rocketed skyward this year, with 40 per cent more weekend passes sold – at a higher price – than 2012.

All told between 21,000 and 22,000 people enjoyed the festival, a number that would have been higher had heavy rains not drenched the city on Saturday night.

Halvorsen said the weekend numbers took the festival back to where it was a decade ago, a sure sign taking a different direction with the headliners worked.

The festival booked Collective Soul and Great Big Sea to headline Friday and Sunday night respectively, going with a more traditional blues act in Los Lobos on Saturday.

Halvorsen said he plans to utilize a similar formula in 2014.
