THUNDER BAY — Environment Canada's prediction that Thunder Bay would receive 15 to 25 centimetres of snow Friday night through Saturday proved accurate.

EC measured a fall of 21 centimetres at Thunder Bay airport.

Meteorologist Sherry Williams said Monday that the snow depth measured on the ground at the airport is currently 35 centimetres, just one centimetre more than the depth last year at this time.

However, conditions in higher elevations around and outside the city are considerably different.

At Hazelwood Lake, a volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada reports that the current snow depth is 81 centimetres, compared with 61 centimetres at this time last year.

"You can get more snowfall at higher elevations just through atmospheric processes, and especially which direction the wind is coming from, where the storm system is coming from," Williams told Tbnewswatch.

She said the current seven-day weather forecast for Thunder Bay is only showing one day (Tuesday night) with a chance of flurries.
