THUNDER BAY — Ways to cope with aging will be a dominant theme next week at Kakabeka Falls' annual health fair.
"We're emphasizing the importance of social connections in maintaining health and well-being, especially as we age," NorWest Community Health Centres Kakabeka site co-ordinator Elaine Peters said Friday in a news release.
The fair, in its seventh year, is to be held on Wednesday at the Kakabeka Falls Legion. Thirty-five vendors representing various health and related services are to attend the afternoon event.
"So much is offered, but sometimes you don't realize it until you need these services," said NorWest Community Health Centres spokeswoman Kaitlin Gaspar.
"With a focus on the needs and wellness of our aging population, the event will . . . showcase a variety of health services, products, and resources tailored for seniors," a news release said.
Participants include St. John's Ambulance and those with information about therapy dogs.
In addition to Kakabeka Falls, NorWest Community Health Centres has three other sites: Thunder Bay, Longlac and Armstrong.
The agency has recently highlighted the shortage of health-care workers across the province. More than 30 positions need to be filled at the agency alone, including vacancies for nurses and doctors.

Wednesday's health fair in Kakabeka Falls is to take place between 12-3 p.m.
