THUNDER BAY — A local resident taking her dogs out for a walk came upon a sight that left her feeling grateful for living in Thunder Bay.

After heading out Monday morning for the Chippewa Park area, Sam Kannegiesser was caught off guard as she drove past an open area just off City Road.

She did a double take when she observed two moose standing nonchalantly in the field.

"I was shocked. I actually drove past them, and then thought 'Wait a minute.'"

Kannegiesser backed her vehicle up and got out to take a photo.

"We're so lucky to live here, where we can be 10 minutes from home, and see that just on our way," she said.

She said she's never seen moose in that area before, but a friend reported seeing a cow and a calf in the vicinity last summer.
