THUNDER BAY -- Lakehead Public Schools says it is aware of a social media threat that appears to target Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

The threat, emblazoned over a picture of a rifle, says: "Better watch out Westgate your school is going to be next."

Another post to a Thunder Bay Facebook group states a group of kids are planning to shoot up the school on Friday and have "a hit list of people they want to kill."

The poster warns that it's a serious threat and advises people to just stay home.

TBNewsatch has not been able to independently verify the validity of the threat.

However, the board says law enforcement is taking it seriously.

"Please rest assured police are actively investigating this issue at this time. An update will be provided between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11," says a message posted to the board's Twitter account.
