The City is moving ahead with plans to create an off-leash dog park at the Westfort playfields.

The fenced-in area for dogs will be located behind the baseball diamonds near the airport.

Parks co-ordinator Don Vezina said they've been consulting with Westfort Little League to ensure the dog park doesn't interfere with the baseball games.

Many people in the area already use the park to walk their dogs.
The new dog park is larger than an acre and will be much larger than the existing park on Winnipeg Avenue.

Vezina added that there will not be separate areas for large and small dogs.

The city is now seeking contract tenders for the fencing, and Vezina says the new Westfort dog park should be open by mid-July.
