THUNDER BAY - Students at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute were once again forced out of of their classes and into the cold following a second evacuation.

The building was evacuated just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the day has been cancelled.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue are on scene at the school again.

”Following discussions with Thunder Bay Fire Services, it has been determined that Westgate CVI will be closed for the rest of the day,” the Lakehead Public School Board said in a statement issued to media.

The school was evacuated earlier Wednesday morning because of a potential gas leak. It was determined the source of the odour was a leak in a dilution tank under a science classroom.

There is no word yet if the same issue from this morning is to blame for the evacuation this afternoon.

Those needing to take the bus had to walk to Westmount Public School to be picked up.

Students at the school said they were told to check for updates as to whether the school will be open tomorrow.

The school board is advising parents and guardians to monitor local media and social media for updates on the closure.
