What to expect for Canada Day in Thunder Bay

Over a dozen local events are scheduled within and outside the city.

Events will include:

A Sunrise Ceremony, led by Elder Anthony (Tony) DePerry, will be held around 6 a.m. at Taiji Park in Marina Park. The traditional Indigenous ceremony welcomes all and honours the rising sun and the gifts of a new day. 

Canada Day festivities will be held at the Fort William Historical Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring music, dancing and family-friendly activities to learn about and celebrate the country's diverse heritage.

The TBME Canada Day 5K Trail Run will run at Trowbridge Falls from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Registration is required.

The Canada Day Long Weekend will continue at the Thunder Bay Museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can explore the museum's new exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Pacific Railway and kids can participate in a colouring contest. A Canada Day celebration will be held at The Foundry, starting at noon. The celebration will also feature a karaoke night, beginning at 8:30 p.m. and running until midnight.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats will be playing at Port Arthur Stadium at 1:35 p.m.

While docked at Marina Park, the public can take a deck tour of the St. Lawrence ll Tall Ship between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. These tours will resume July 19 during the same hours.

Canada Day on the Waterfront will run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring a variety of programming, including music, dance, arts, crafts, games, food and more. Event timing may change.

A Canada Day Show and Shine car show will be held at the Murillo Fairgrounds from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free and the cost is $20 per vehicle per class.

A Canada Day celebration will be held at the Royalton Hotel, starting at 4 p.m. Visitors can purchase a $2 bracelet to get in on the door prize, as well as hotdogs and hamburgers. Tickets for prizes are also $1 each. Prizes include but are not limited to a bar fridge, Java Hut gift certificates, Lot 88 gift cards and cash. There is also a $3.75 bar rail throughout the celebration.

Black Pirates Pub will feature an all-age and licensed showcase of Born of Osiris, The Browning, Convictions and Teknosis from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Entry is $25 plus tax and fees in advance. Doors open at 7 p.m. and shows begin at 8 p.m.

Canada Day at the Hodder will begin at 10 p.m. The 19+ event has no cover charge, features a Trivia night starting at 7:30 and will remain open until 2 a.m.
