What’s Poppin: July 19 and July 20

Saturday

Oliver Paipoonge Heritage Park is hosting a Family Day from noon to 4:30 p.m. It will feature family-friendly activities, crafts, games, music, face painting with Polly the Clown in the Pavilion from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., a performance by Rodney Brown at the Pavilion from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and more. Admission to the park is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. 

Indigo will have its first annual Local Author Showcase from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will feature 14 authors in the store including Lance Robinson, Ben Date, Steve McKeown, Dave Mossman, Julie McGowan, Natalie Lehto, Alan Wade, Edith Gagne, ShaeMichelle Watson, Joan Baril, Eleanor Albanese, Marion Agnew, H. Leighton Dickson and Steven Saxberg.

While docked at Marina Park, visitors are invited to go on deck tours of the St. Lawrence II Tall Ship between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Festival of India will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Marina Park. The festival will feature live music, classical dance, drama, yoga, cultural exhibits, henna art and a free vegetarian feast. A Jagannath Rathyatra (Chariot Parade) will also begin at 3 p.m. Admission is free for the all-ages event. More information is available online.

The Thunder Bay Malayali Association is hosting the All Canada Tug of War Championship 2025 at the Military Ground from 3  p.m. to 8 p.m. It will feature over 12 competitive teams battling for the championship title, Kerala-style food vendors and music, all-age activities and cash prizes, trophies and medals. It will also mark the kickoff of TBMA’s Onam Festival 2025, which leads up to the grand cultural celebration on Sept. 6 at CLE Grounds. Admission is free for the event.

DJ Rogue will perform at the Foundry at 10 p.m. Admission is $5 and the event is 19+ only.

Dark Horse will perform at the Wayland Bar and Grill at 10 p.m. Admission is $5 and the event is 19+ only.

Sunday

The Festival of Colours will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Marina Park. The family-friendly event will feature colour throws, live music, dance performances and various types of food. Visitors are encouraged to wear white to the event and attend for free.

All weekend

Sleeping Giant Dog Sports is holding dog agility trials on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chippewa Park.

The "Wings of Time – Homecoming of the Harvards" will be held at the Wasaya Airways Ramp at 201 Kelner Place in the Thunder Bay Airport from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Parking is free. The rain date for the event is July 26 to 27. Entry is by donation. 

The Paranormal Cirque IV will perform outside the Intercity Shopping Centre under the striped big top tent near parking lot B from Friday to Monday. It will have shows at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Another series of shows at 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. A final show at 7:30 p.m. will take place on Monday. Visitors under the age of 13 will be admitted to the show and guests aged 13 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
