What’s Poppin’: March 22 and 23

Saturday:

The Thunder Bay Art Gallery will have a Paper Parade class for ages 5 to 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. It will also hold a Paper Projects class for ages 8 to 12 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. These art classes will run for a total of six classes until April 26.

The Zhuravli Ukrainian Folk Ensemble will be hosting their second annual Ukrainian Coffee House at the Urban Abbey from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will include performances by the Chaban Ukrainian Dance Group, Lastivka Bandura Capella, Zorya Ukrainian Dance Association and Dave Petrash. Admission is by donation with free refreshments and snacks provided.

Sleeping Giant Folk Music is celebrating its 24th season with the Dirty Catfish Brass Band at the Italian Cultural Centre at 8 p.m. Admission is $40 for all ages.

Sunday:

A Easter Egg Pysanka Workshop will be held in the Wildwood Cafe at Toy Sense from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will teach locals how to make traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs. The workshop is $20 with a $10 store credit afterwards. However, the workshop is not suitable for children under the age of 14 as there will be candles with open flames, dyes that can stain permanently and eggs that can easily be cracked.

The Dorset Pier Community Cares and The Sleepy Gee Events are bringing Let Your HeART Out: A Poetry Night to the Goods & Co. Market from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will feature 12 local poets and light snacks provided by the Cheese Encounter. Admission is $20 per person. Proceeds from the event will support fully-funded counselling sessions through the organizations.

All Weekend Long:

Starting Friday, Loch Lomond will have Spring Skiing for only $25 for all ages. Skiing will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for Sunday when it closes at 5 p.m.

The Thunder Bay Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend. Two exhibits include the contributions of women at the Canadian Car and Foundry in Fort William during the Second World and the travelling exhibit Treaty 3: Manidoo Mazina’igan, The Sacred Document.
