THUNDER BAY - Several sections of highway throughout Northern Ontario are closed due to poor weather conditions.

The Ontario Provincial Police indicated a more than 600 kilometre stretch of Highway 11 between Nipigon and Cochrane is closed due to white out conditions.

Highway 17 between White River and Wawa is also closed because of blowing snow and poor visibility.

West of the city, the eastbound lane on Highway 17 between Upsala and Shabaqua Corners was blocked for several hours due to a collision but has since reopened. There is no word on any injuries.

A blowing snow advisory has been issued for the city of Thunder Bay and surrounding region, with wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h Sunday afternoon, which could result in blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions.
