THUNDER BAY, DECEMBER 23, 2016 – Today, Thunder Bay Hydro and the Waterfront District BIA announced the inaugural winners of the Window Wonderland Competition.
Over the past month, 20 local businesses in the neighbourhood competed head to head decorating their storefronts all vying for the top prize of best overall window. The winners are:
- Best Exterior - The Loop
- Best Interior - Pneumaticity Hair Salon & Day Spa
- People’s Choice - The Foundry
- Best Overall - Red Lion Smokehouse
“These local businesses are a great example of what the holiday season and our waterfront district is all about; getting together and working toward a common goal, and giving our community a vibrant downtown north core that we can be proud of," says Waterfront District BIA Chair, Jim Comuzzi.
"Walking around the district these past few days and seeing all of the amazing displays, we really got a sense of what this area and our city is capable of."
Best Overall winner and owner of Red Lion Smokehouse, John Murray, says receiving an award is wonderful but bringing the community closer together is what matters.
“Red Lion Smokehouse wanted to get involved in the Window Wonderland Competition to celebrate the holiday spirit and this amazing community that we’ve developed in the Waterfront District.”
Thunder Bay Hydro was proud to be a partner for the competition, encouraging local businesses to being energy conscious while setting up their displays.
“Thunder Bay Hydro is thrilled to be a part of the first ever Window Wonderland Competition. Congratulations to everyone that took part and thank you for making the city merry and bright during the holidays,” says Thunder Bay Hydro Vice-President Customer & Information Services, Tim Wilson.
The local utility is reminding people and businesses that Save on Energy programs can help save money and energy for a brighter holiday season and year round.
“The Thunder Bay Hydro Save on Energy Business programs have provided incentives and upgrades to 176 businesses in 2016. We look forward to helping even more local businesses achieve their energy saving resolutions and goals in the upcoming year;” continues Wilson.
Until Dec. 28, community members can also find Thunder Bay Hydro’s energy efficient window display in the downtown north core for a chance to win breakfast, lunch and dinner for two in the Waterfront District.
