Windsor man arrested after fleeing stolen vehicle

THUNDER BAY - A 25-year-old Windsor, Ont.-area man is in police custody after fleeing police during a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.

Just before 8 a.m, a Thunder Bay police officer noticed a possible stolen vehicle while on patrol in the area of Ambrose and Algoma streets. The officer initiated a traffic stop, at which point the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The officer pursued on foot, and caught up with the suspect on Secord Street, where the arrest was completed. The accused was in possession of a "non-firearm prohibited weapon," according to police media release.

He is expected to face charges of resisting arrest, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle, three counts of breach of probation, six counts of disobeying court orders, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
