Winnipeg man steals commercial vehicle, merchandise in Dryden

After stealing a hatchback in Winnipeg, a 39-year-old man stole a commercial vehicle and robbed a Walmart in Dryden before being arrested by police

DRYDEN, Ont. - A Winnipeg man is facing numerous charges after robbing a Walmart in Dryden and stealing two vehicles.

According to a media release by the Dryden Police Service, officers responded to reports of a theft at Walmart on Jan. 9.

Police learned a male pried open the doors while evening employees were working and removed approximately $1,600 worth of stolen merchandise.

The man was seen leaving in a KK Penner Tire commercial vehicle.

Police learned the commercial vehicle was stolen from the KK Penner property and a second vehicle, a hatchback reported stolen from Winnipeg, was located a short distance from the property on Grand Truck Ave.

According to police, the man attempted to tow the hatchback, which contained numerous stolen items, with the commercial vehicle but it was ultimately abandoned.

The suspects was later involved in a single motor vehicle collision near Melgund Lake and was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police.

A 39-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of methamphetamine, theft under $5,000, obstructing a police officer, breach of probation, and two counts of failing to comply with a judicial order.

The man remains in custody and will appear in bail court on Jan. 15 via video.
