Woman assaulted outside city hall

Injuries not considered life-threatening; Police investigation ongoing

THUNDER BAY - Police are investigating what they describe as a "serious assault" that occurred late Friday night outside Thunder Bay city hall. Officers responded after a passerby called 911 around 10 p.m., finding a woman with significant injuries near a city hall bus shelter.

The woman, 27, was transported by paramedics to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Police say her injuries "do not appear to be life-threatening."

A forensic unit established a scene in the area, cordoning off part of the sidewalk along May Street in front of city hall. The scene has since been released.

An investigation by the Major Crimes Unit is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Thunder Bay Police or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers.
