Woman assaults woman with pipe wrench

Police officer breaks up incident, which occurred in the area of May and George streets.

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Police are investigating an aggravated assault which occurred at 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday in the area of May and George streets.

A police officer on routine patrol observed a 30-year-old female standing over a 40-year-old female, striking her in the head area with a pipe wrench.

The officer tackled and arrested the accused.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening head injuries.

The 30-year-old suspect has been charged and will attend court on Wednesday morning.

Alcohol was a factor.

The investigation continues.
