THUNDER BAY - A Peterborough woman facing a string of charges related to a drug-related shooting earlier this month will remain in custody as her counsel continues to plan for her potential release.
Molly O’Brien, 29, appeared by audio in Thunder Bay bail court on Wednesday, May 20, as her counsel Tyler Woods told the court bail planning for O’Brien is still in the works.
“Between today and tomorrow I will be seeking out a specific date so I am going to request she returns on Friday,” Woods said. “At that time we will know when a bail hearing date is going to occur.”
O’Brien was arrested on Monday, May 11 in connection to a shooting that left Shane Keefe with series injuries on May 3.
Police were dispatched to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where a man had crashed his vehicle into a barricade on the hospital’s property.
Police determined the man’s injuries were sustained prior to his arrival and were the result of a firearm.
Initially, police arrested O’Brien’s co-accused Terry Pelto, 32, and charged him with attempted murder and multiple firearm-related offences. Police say Pelto and Keefe were known to each other and the incident was targeted.
More than a week later, police arrested O’Brien, Natalie Salatino and Jacob Daniel Wattie after a search warrant was executed at a residential address in the 700-block of Catherine Street. All three were arrested and charged with firearm-related offences in connection to the attempted murder investigation.
As a result of the search warrant, all three accused are charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property not exceeding $5,000.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs totalled more than $30,000.
O'Brien is expected to return to court on Friday to set a future date for a bail hearing.
