Woman charged with drunk driving after being found in ditch with stolen SUV

OPP Media Release (KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 21 year old woman for a number of offences following a vehicle theft on Boxing Day.

(KENORA, ON)  Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 21 year old woman for a number of offences following a vehicle theft on Boxing Day.

On December 26, 2015 shortly after 5:00 pm the OPP received a call that a sport utility vehicle (SUV) had been stolen from Second Street in downtown Kenora.  The SUV had been left running with the keys in it. 

Police located the SUV in the ditch on Villeneuve Rd around 7:00 pm.  Officers determined the female driver had been consuming alcohol and she was arrested and transported for further tests. 

As a result of this investigation the accused has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

• Driving While Ability Impaired-motor vehicle (Drug) section 253(1)(a)
• Theft of Motor Vehicle s. 333.1
• Obstruct Peace Officer 129(a)

She appeared in court on December 27, 2015 for a bail hearing.
