THUNDER BAY – A 41-year-old woman remains in critical condition in hospital after a violent George Street assault on Saturday.
Thunder Bay Police on Monday said the victim was found lying unconscious in the street, bleeding from the head.
"There was an altercation between three females," said Julie Tilbury of the Thunder Bay Police Service. "As a result, the victim did land on the ground and strike her head."
A 35-year-old and 43-year-old woman were arrested shortly after the incident took place and both have been charged with aggravated assault.
Both have appeared in court and have been remanded into custody.
The victim remains in hospital and Tilbury said police will move forward with the investigation when the victim is able to provide more information.
"Because we have someone that’s still in critical condition, getting that piece of the puzzle is something we are going to have to wait on for our officers to do a thorough investigation," she said.
Tilbury said witness statements and video surveillance provided police with information on the incident. She also commended individuals who found the victim and waved down a Thunder Bay Police officer who was in the area.
"This could have been one of those situations where the incident happened and nobody called the police depending on how isolated it is at night, which can just make the situation that much worse," Tilbury said. "We are thankful the individual took the time, there was an officer in that area, and relay that information and get help to that female quickly."
