Medical staff at Dryden’s regional hospital pronounced a 50-year-old woman dead following a house fire in that community Sunday morning.
Firefighters with the Dryden Fire Services and officers with the Dryden Police Service responded to the residential fire early Sunday morning. Police say smoke could be seen billowing from the second floor window of the building when they arrived on scene.
Firefighters found an unconscious person inside the building. The 50-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Nine other people who lived in the building were treated for smoke inhalation.
A post-mortem examination is being conducted on Monday at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital to determine the cause of death.
The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the fire with the Dryden Fire Services and Dryden Police Service.
The identity of the woman will be released once next of kin have been notified.
