Woman killed in highway collision

MARATHON, Ont. – A single-vehicle collision has left an 82-year-old Schreiber, Ont. woman dead.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release, say Santosh Gupta was a rear-seat passenger in a four-door car travelling east on Highway 17 East of Marathon near Dunk Lake on Friday morning at about 10:20 a.m.

The driver lost control and rolled, coming to rest in a north-side ditch.

Emergency crews responded to assist the three occupants.

A 59-year-old female driver and a 59-year-old passenger were taken to a local medical facility for treatment.

The highway was initially closed, but has since opened to one lane while the OPP’s technical traffic collision investigation unit conducts the investigation.

Motorists are being asked to use caution and expect some delays while traveling in the area.
