MARATHON, Ont. -- A 35-year-old woman is dead and three others were taken to hospital with major injuries following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17.

The collision occurred at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, when an eastbound vehicle hit the shoulder, lost control, entered the ditch and flipped onto its roof.

The driver, a 31-year-old from Guelph, was taken to hospital in Marathon and then transferred to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by Air Ornge for treatment of major injuries.

Two other passengers, one from Guelph, were taken to hospital in Wawa.

All four people had to be extracted by police and local fire departments.
