Signs posted advising of the upcoming road work originally listed a start date of May 28, but have since been covered.

THUNDER BAY - People travelling along a busy highway route on the city’s south side can expect reduced speeds during the day and road closures overnight.

Work on railway overpasses and the Rosslyn Road Bridge on Highway 61 between Neebing Avenue and Broadway Avenue is expected to begin in early June. Work crews with contractor, Toronto Zenith, are currently preparing the area.

It was determined following public consultations that work will be conducted between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. to avoid closing the route completely. During the day, speeds will be reduced where work is underway.

A detour will be available down Neebing Avenue to Broadway Avenue when construction work is being done during the night.

This is part of a larger project to upgrade Highway 61 between Arthur Street and Loch Lomond Road, with other work still undergoing studies and public consultations by the Ministry of Transportation.

The MTO expects work on upgrading the overpasses between Neebing Avenue and Broadway Avenue to be completed by November 2018.
