THUNDER BAY -- The concerns about Radon gas in many Thunder Bay homes prompted a public information session on the topic.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. That's why many efforts, including November being Radon Awareness Month, are being made around the city to inform the public and help them fix the problem. True Grit Consulting hosted a workshop Thursday about all of the dangerous things one can inhale in a home.

Mold and Asbestos are known for causing a spectrum of illnesses. They were part of a presentation Thursday about hazards in a home.
Radon impacts people over their lifetime. It used to be hard to test for Radon. Equipment was expensive and bulkier but test kits have come a long way.

Those test kits lead to a resurfacing of the issue recently. More than 400 homes were tested in Thunder Bay and many came back above the recommended levels. This has homeowners looking for information to protect themselves, something all Thunder Bay residents are being urged to do in the coming winter months.

No home, regardless of age, is immune.
